Farming has shaped the Isles of Scilly since the early Bronze Age. Archaeology abounds, with Scilly boasting the UK’s greatest density of Scheduled Monuments. This history of use is reflected by the enclosed pastures, hedged bulb-strips, scattered rural settlements and quays.

The Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme is a 4 year programme running untill March 2025 providing grant-funding or Farmers and Landowners. The programme will focus on key challenges facing Protected Landscapes and those who live and work in them; supporting work towards addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis. The aims of the programme fit into four aims: Climate, Nature, People and Place – to address and prepare for current and future climate issues, enrich existing habitats and biodiversity, create opportunities for more people to engage with the landscape, and reinforce and protect the special features and structures within the landscape.

Who can apply?

Farmers across the Isles of Scilly National Landscape and further afield within the Cornwall National Landscape who have a project in mind that could deliver towards one of the four aims are welcome to apply or to arrange an informal chat via jacob@ios-wildlifetrust.org.uk .
